A True Life Dating Service Story

When it comes to dating service stories you will find some of the best and worst stories.  You can hear anything from meeting a complete weirdo to finding your true love.  I always watched the eHarmony commercials with pessimism, thinking that there was no way that someone could actually find true love until my best friend told me her saga of dating service stories.  After hearing them, she left me with no doubt that finding love was a real possibility but not to have too many expectations at first.

She started off by telling me how happy she was that she had finally decided to use a dating service.  This girl worked her entire life and I don’t know where she made the time to actually get out of the house and meet people.  We would go to bars and clubs but no one of much consistency was found in these places.  Even between friends, there wasn’t anyone who really caught her attention so blind dates were out of the question.  However, with a dating service it was like going to a candy shop.

All of her free hours, she worked on her profile and searching through her potential matches.  She would call me up all of the time telling me about how great this guy was and that guy was.  She started contacted some of her matches but to her dismay, lot’s of them did not show nearly as much effort as she did.  This discouraged her until she received an enlightening reply.  She started corresponding with Mr. X for a few weeks before she decided to make the leap from online dating to the actual dating scene.

Their first outing was a complete disaster.  She wasn’t comfortable offering her phone number up front and she waited for nearly an hour at a Starbucks halfway between their two locations.  After becoming royally pissed off, she called me blowing off steam.  In all of her fury she bumped into a guy who started hysterically laughing.  She put me on hold as she apologized but you could tell that she wasn’t so happy that this complete stranger was laughing at her after she was completely stood up.

He said that there was no apology necessary as he was the guy that “stood” her up.  He apologized saying that he wasn’t too much of a coffee fan and didn’t realize how many Starbucks there were between their two locations and that he had been to 3 others looking for her.  Since he didn’t have her number he had to search until he found her.  Four years later, they are still happy and going strong.  They are also avoiding Starbucks but have exchanged phone numbers since then.  Dating services should be given a shot before you deny looking for love with one.
